The longest New Year’s Eve

In Edinburgh, they start saying goodbye to the old year on 30 December, and the party keeps going until the following year, on 1 January. Hogmanay (Scottish for New Year’s Eve) is celebrated throughout the country, but the capital is home to the biggest festival. The Guinness Book of Records has recognized it as the biggest New Year’s Eve party in the world. It includes street concerts, fireworks, a torch procession and a dip in the freezing waters of the River Forth. This year, singer Paolo Nutini will be in charge of welcoming in 2017, with a show in West Princes Street Gardens, at the foot of Edinburgh castle.
